Bulova Automatic Divers Watch Waterproof 666 feet Calibre 11ALAC – Service

This interesting Bulova automatic divers watch came in for a service. It is a  very collectable model, the “M7” on the caseback and movement indicates that it was produced in 1967. It has a lovely bakelite bezel insert and  is powered by the 17 jewels Bulova Calibre 11ALAC, self winding movement.

Certina DS-2 Automatic Calibre 25.651 – Service

I have been meaning to feature a Certina DS-2 for a while on the blog. Having a penchant for vintage divers watches, the iconic “turtle back” originating from the late 1960s is certainly worthy of a feature, with its substantial look and novel design. It is powered by an in-house automatic Certina Calibre 25.651. One of the particularities of the DS-2 range is the floating movement design, where a rubber ring is sandwiched between the case and the movement, to absorb energy in case of a shock.

Eterna Matic 3000 Sevenday Calibre 1457U – Service

This week I am featuring this Eterna Matic 3000 Sevenday on the blog. The watch is powered by Eterna’s Calibre 1457U, an automatic movement with a day date complication and quick set date mechanism. Eterna had a pioneering role in the development of self winding calibres, with the development in the late 1940s of the first Eterna Matic movement, using a friction-reducing ball-bearing mounted rotor system. The 145X and 146X movement family follow on from the success of the first Eterna Matic, and were known as ultra-thin automatic movements ( 3.6 mm thick, and 4.15 mm for the day date).  It is commonly known as the ancestor of the famous ETA 2892 movement, the high end Calibre by ETA found in many prestigious watches for the last few decades. It is worth noting that ETA was founded by Eterna, so it is no surprise that even the movements produced nowadays by ETA (currently owned by the Swatch Group) share some  common DNA with Eterna calibres.

Omega Calibre 561 Constellation watch 168.017 Automatic Chronometer – Service & Repair

Another vintage Omega on the blog. Today I am featuring this beautiful Constellation model dating from 1966. It is powered by the Omega Calibre 561, which is a very fine movement indeed. It is chronometer rated, meaning it was tested and certified to meet certain precision standards. It was adjusted in different temperatures and in 5 positions during production.

Timefactors Speedbird II PRS-7 Service (ETA 2824-2)

Anthony sent me this lovely Speedbird II PRS-7 watch for a service. The Speedbird II  was manufactured by Timefactors, a British company owned by Eddie Platts who launched the Speedbird II back in 2002. Only 300 pieces were produced, in either black or ivory dial. The production of this watch follows the success of the original Speedbird PRS-1, a design of military influence, in the style of watches issued to pilots of the British Overseas Airways Corporation in the 1950s. It is easy to see why the Speedbird was a success as the watch feels very well built, and looks very smart indeed.
